Cyclone Alfred begins to underwhelm in Moreton Bay

As QLDers panic; surf or clutch their mountains of toilet paper; our local photographer was sent to the coast to replicate the images we are seeing from the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. Wild swell and island cutting waves have been observed in SEQ and shared all over social media, our intrepid photographer braved the elements and traffic to head out, and they chose... Redcliffe; famously protected in the Bay with no swell reaching the shore and an uneventful pier, what a disappointment for this article.

QLD premier David Crisafulli has stated that local government services are working with "people sleeping rough" to house them for the upcoming cyclone though did not clarify how the homeless population of greater Brisbane would be cared for. During our photographer's excursion to Redcliffe it was noted that people suffering from homelessness were still present on the street and exposed to the elements and there was no sign of community services providing assistance to those in need.

Local schools in the Moreton Bay area have announced closures for the 6th and 7th of March 2025 to coincide with Tropical Cyclone Alfred's arrival. Facebook groups are sharing their concern that apprentices are still being required to attend work during the cyclone particularly those working in the refrigeration and air conditioning spaces, it is unknown if these workers will still be required by their boss if his boat sinks, or if the cyclone is upgraded to a category 3 as some other 'news' organisations are suggesting.
