Brisbane councils race to the bottom with attacks on the most vulnerable community members

As reported by the Brisbane Times and the ABC; recently homelessness in the Moreton Bay Area and Brisbane city have been targeted by increasingly strict and somewhat dystopian laws. In addition to Moreton Bay council’s repeal of ‘Persons Experiencing Homelessness Camping Framework’ that had previously protected theses vulnerable people; Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner recently stated that people are choosing to be homeless despite being “offered assistance” during cyclone Alfred. Paper Dead News notes that it had identified vulnerable people that had not received aid leading up to the weather event. It is clear that the gap between what region councils think they are doing to assist and what is actually transpiring in reality is growing quickly.
Our very own Lord Farquud states on his ‘about me’ council webpage; “As Lord Mayor, my goal is simple – to ensure the Brisbane of tomorrow is even better than the Brisbane of today.” Clearly his actions show otherwise and his vision of a better Brisbane does not include those he views as beneath him. Brisbane City Council has a long history of implementing hostile architecture forcing the disenfranchised out of view. The Brisbane Olympic Games will be looming in the minds of local councils, causing its members to want to hide any issues it may have, so instead of assisting the homeless community it seeks to criminalise peoples lowest of times; punishing those who are struggle in the most, with un-payable fines leading to prison. Adrian has stated that he does not want Brisbane to end up like San Fancisco though the USA has proven that a lack of empathy and inability to assist the homeless leads to further suffering only and not a reduction in numbers of those suffering from homelessness.
